Classical music art newly discovered by the young generation
On September 21, 2016, Armenia celebrated the 25th Anniversary of Independence. During these 25 years, Armenia gave birth to a brilliant generation of independence, the generation of leaders, creators, innovators… Never before has Armenia been so rich in talented young people as it is now. The latter have to unite and raise the voice of the Armenian people all over the world. This was the belief of the conductor Sergey Smbatyan when he came up with the initiative to create the All Armenian Choir and Orchestra “Generation of Independence”. The project’s idea was to unite numerous talented young musicians (aged 9-25) from different regions of Armenia and Artsakh around a single event.
The unique project brought together 1144 Armenian musicians on the same stage – the representatives of the generation of independence who performed pieces by the Armenian composers of different periods.
Nothing, but the numbers can convey the whole scope of the project: the All Armenian Choir and Orchestra “Generation of Independence” was comprised of an orchestra of 392 musicians, the choir of 323 singers, the children choir of 211 members, and the folk instruments ensemble of 218 instrumentalists.
Moreover, within the project, 1176 masterclasses were organized for the young musicians (in total, 75 teachers have been involved in the project).
The first concert of the All Armenian Choir and Orchestra “Generation of Independence” took place on September 21, 2016. The concert was conducted by the initiator of the project Sergey Smbatyan.
